The Truth About Fad Diets

People are always looking for easy ways to lose weight.  While some diets help people to lose weight, many fad diets have no effect.

What are Fad Diets?

Fad diets may help people lose weight within a limited amount of time, but they are never sustainable.

Every fad diet has a specific food plan which they require the dieters to follow.  For example, the HCG diet drops diet requires people to indulge in a lot of low calorie foods and to not exceed a specific level of calories (1000 calories per day).

How To Recognise A Fad Diet

Every new diet released is not exactly a fad diet.  Some diets end up getting excellent results.  Here are 3 ways you can identify a fad diet:

  • Fad diets promise to help you lose weight in a short amount of time.  For example, 10 pounds in one week.
  • Does not include ingredients which are fresh and healthy for your body.
  • Includes a lot of fake claims which say that a person can trick their body into shedding weight and quickening the metabolism rate.

While these diets can definitely help you lose weight, the methods and the official diet plan are just not safe.  For example, Beyoncé Knowles followed a fad diet which just included drinking water mixed with cayenne pepper and maple syrup.  While she did end up losing 22 pounds for her upcoming movie, even the singer herself said that she did not recommend anyone to follow that diet as there are other safe ways to shed weight.

The Military Diet

It is not very often that diets, even fad diets, start promising that they can guarantee that you will lose 10 pounds in one week.  However, the military diet does.

The military diet is absolutely free. There are no lengthy books written on it, no subscriptions which you need to pay for and no supplements. The only thing you need to follow to lose 10 pounds in one week is the extremely strict food plan. A fun fact is that the military diet wasn’t introduced by the military or in any part of the military.

The military diet involves following the military diet meal plan for 3 days, followed by 4 off days in the week. It can help lose 10 pounds in one week or dieters just have to repeat the process till they reach their desired weight goal. The total calorie intake for each day must be between 1000 to 1400 calories. In the off days, dieters are required to eat healthy and to keep their calorie intake below 1000 to 1400 calories.

However, whether it’s the military diet or any other fad diet, nutritionists strictly advise against following them.
