Meet Kimanzi Constable — Bouncing Back From Bankruptcy

At the age of 18, Kimanzi had his entrepreneurial spirit set alight starting his own bread delivery company which soared and allowed him to employ people and take in six figures. The initial success took a nosedive when a large corporation entered into the picture and squeezed out the smaller companies- including Kimanzi’s business. On top of that, with Kimanzi’s limited knowledge of running a business- he finds himself in big trouble with taxes.

Breakthrough Moment:

  • Kimanzi gets completely transparent with his experiences- particularly hitting rock bottom and declaring bankruptcy, which he describes as “gut-wrenching.” However, it is this transparency that propels his books sales; Kimanzi ends up selling over 80,000 copies of his book.

  • The freedom; “Doing what you want to do, living life on your terms.”

Kimanzi’s Advice to Wantrepreneurs:

  • Have a larger financial “emergency fund” than you anticipate your business venture will cost.
  • Have a set plan where you can hit the ground running.
  • Be very clear about what your dream is and have a foundation set in place- test out your dream.
  • “Research the heck” out of your dream, know it inside out before you step out.

Who has been the biggest influence on your life?

  • Apart from the Lord, Dan Miller, New York Times Best Selling author of 48 Days to the Work You Love. Dan Miller has been a personal mentor to Kimanzi and also wrote an endorsement for his book.

What do you want to be remembered for in this life?

  • For helping people get from where they are to where they want to be. “Life is short, you gotta chase those dreams. I want to be remembered as the guy that showed people it is possible, and showed them how to do it.”

What is your definition of success?

A life of living– not having regrets, not holding back. Dying empty every day.
